Introduction: Carding is a mechanical process that disentangles, cleans and intermix fibers s to supply endless web or sliver suitable for subsequent processing. during this process ,fibers are opened, parallelized & removes dust, impurities, short fibers to supply continuous strand of sliver. this can be achieved by passing the fibers between differentially moving surfaces covered with card clothing. The word comes from the Latin “CARDUUS” meaning thistle or teasel, as dried vegetable teasels were first used to comb the wool .

Actions in carding machine:
I . Stripping action: when two close surfaces have same wire direction but their speed direction is opposite to each other, then the action between two surfaces is named stripping action. Opening and cleaning of fibers is completed by this action.

II . Carding action: If two closed surfaces have opposite wire direction and their speed direction is additionally opposite to each other, then the action between two surfaces is understood as carding action. Opening to individual fibers and neps removal is completed by this action.

Working Principle of carding machine:
Lap is placed to lap stand
Transport roller forward the material to feed plate.
Taker in opens the material to small flocks.
When the material passes to main cylinder grid bars and carding segment eliminate a great parts of impurities.
Suction dust and carry away the waste.
Main cylinder and fixed carding segments designed to assists the carding operation.
The main carding operation occurs between flats and cylinder.
Cleaning unit cleans stripes fibre, naps and foreign matters from flats.
The doffer combines the fibre into a web
Calendar roller calendars the cotton and moves that toward.
At last by can and coiler the sliver is produced.
